An upgrade is useful when it improves the problem your next fight exposes. Compare the actual item, its conditions and its cost before chasing a rarity or a set name.
A quick equipment comparison
Damage
Match the weapon family and the Attack or Magic needs of the skills you actually use. Check skill-specific conditions.
Survival
Look at HP, Defense, recovery and penalties together. A higher damage roll can still make a difficult run less reliable.
Set and power conditions
Read required pieces and triggers. A set bonus or power that is not active should not be counted in your plan.
Whetstones at the Blacksmith
These are six documented material names. Their color and list order do not prove a universal upgrade range. The selected Blacksmith offer identifies the actual stone, quantity, Gold cost, success chance and failure rule.

Iron Staff buffs
A recorded Common Iron Staff provides +3 Defense and +7 Magic and is restricted to Mage. Read the selected item’s own panel; worn-gear totals include other pieces. See the item sample and crafting guide for the source and limits.
Dawnkeeper or Thornstalker?
There is not enough verified set-bonus evidence in the reviewed sources to declare a winner. Compare the copies you can actually equip: active piece count, direct stats, triggered powers and the encounter you are preparing for.
A useful comparison needs both full tooltips at the same version and upgrade level. A selected piece at 0/3 does not activate a three-piece set bonus. Read the worn-set panel after equipping the pieces.
